Step 1:

In this first step of our guide to creating a Chinese dragon, you’ll use your pencil to create an outline to work from while adding details in later steps. As you can see in the reference images, this dragon will consist of many curved and twisted lines. The trickiest part of this step will be the face, so for this part, you’ll want to take it easy and follow the guide very closely. Once you are happy with the face, you can use a pen to review the pencil lines. When you start using your stylus, you can add some finer details as you go.

Step 2:

We will continue to extend the pencil lines in this part of your Chinese dragon drawing. To do this, you can start with sharp, jagged lines around the face for eye-catching details. Then you can draw square-scale details along the dragon’s chest. Finally, for this step, you can finish by drawing the claw on the front of the dragon catching an orb.

Step 3:

This third step of our focus to removing a Chinese dragon will be to add better pencil details to your photo. First, you can lay the square scales on the dragon’s chest. Then add some details in the pen on the other leg and the foot near the bottom of the dragon. There are also some more fiery details behind this leg. Then the dragon’s body will continue with curved and twisted lines, and the scales will continue as the body rotates. The reference image will be beneficial to see where the scales should make body placement consistent!

Step 4:

We will complete the rest of the outline in this section of your Chinese dragon drawing. To do this, you can continue with everything you’ve done in this guide to complete the loopback that will end up in a queue. Don’t forget to add the hind legs too! Finally, once these objects are removed, you can draw a sharp fin on the dragon’s back for more dynamic effects.

Step 5:

Your dragon already looks great! It’s nearly time to color it in, but there are more details to count to this guide on removing a Chinese dragon. Before adding them, you can take your eraser and delete all the pencil lines you drew in the first step. You won’t need it anymore; They are in the way now! Once the pencil lines are gone, pick up your pen and review all the little dots you missed. Now you can finish some excellent details to bring your dragon to life!  For our image, we used patterns of many small round shapes to create scale patches on the dragon. It’s a simple but effective trick to use for many details! Finally, before continuing, you can add some elements you want. It would be relaxing to draw a scene for this image to show where this dragon is! What final details can you think of adding to this image?

Step 6:

You’ve labored hard on your Chinese dragon picture, and now you can kick back, chill and have fun tint! In our reference image, we used reds and yellows for our dragon, but that’s not your only option! While gold and red are familiar with these dragons, they also come in all sorts of different colors that you can experiment with. You can incorporate any color for this image, which would look amazing! You can color it for even more variations if you draw a background. Then, once you know what colors you want to use, you can have fun choosing art mediums. Some watercolors would give this image a more subdued and classic look, while colored pens or markers would be great for a more dynamic look.
