How to Draw A Crown

Step 1

We’ll start small in this first step of our guide to drawing a crown. Just draw two strongly curved lines with a rounded shape at the top.

This will be the first border part of your wreath design, and we will build on this in future steps.

Step 2

For this part of your crown design, we will continue to add the part of the crown that you started in step one.

You can draw more of the edge of the crown, but let it tilt slightly as you do so. Then you can create the sides of your crown with a few lines that curve inwards and outwards. After seeing it as in the reference image, we can proceed to step 3!

Step 3

In step 3 of our How to Draw a Crown guide, we will draw a base for your crown.

Crowns often have a band at the base with a hairy texture, so we’ll use that base for your crown.

First, draw a smooth line between the two sides of the crown. Then, draw the rest of the base onto the crown using a more jagged line representing the furry texture.

Try referencing the reference image up close to get an idea of the lines’ angle.

Step 4

In this step, we will add some section details to the crown design.

To do this, we will use some hard lines to form triangular shapes from the divisions between the crown tops.

These touches will help add some depth to your crown design.

Step 5

This step of our tutorial on drawing a crown will be fun because this step will allow you to show your creativity! Every wreath needs fancy decorations, so let’s add some for this step.

We’ve only shown one way to decorate your crown in our reference image, but feel free to decorate it the way you love!

When it comes to crowns, the more eye-catching, the better! You should draw as many diamonds, gemstones, and other details as possible to make this fancy crown.

Step 6

Before we continue coloring your crown design, you can draw additional details to give it a more dynamic look.

We used some lines at the tips of the crown and some on the inside to give it more texture.

You can even draw your fun details to bring this crown to life! You could draw lots of small lines on the hairy base of the crown to give it more texture.

Or you could draw more crown sections to build it up, adding more pieces to the circle.

There are so many ways you can add your touch to this crown, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Step 7

You’re almost at the end of this tutorial on how to draw a crown! Although it looks great and chic, it needs some color to bring it to life.

Crowns aren’t known for being subtle, so when it comes to colors, you might want to go wild with your favorite bright colors!

Using a bright yellow for the metallic parts of the crown would be great, and if you have shiny gold colors, that would be even better!

Then you could use some incredibly vibrant colors for the crown jewel and decorative inlays.

This is an image you will have a lot of fun experimenting with different artistic mediums.

I would use acrylic paints and colored pencils for this wreath, but whatever medium you use will bring something special.

If you have glitter or glitter pens, you can refresh the design and give it a glittery look for a great finishing touch!
