Some hats are also associated with various countries and cultures, and the hat would be a perfect example. This wide-brimmed hat is associated with Mexico as that country’s iconic hat. They have become popular all over the world because of the protection they provide against the sun. Although they can be quite recognizable, it can still be difficult to learn how to draw a hat.

How to draw a hat
Step 1:
To start this guide on how to draw a hat, we are going to draw the wide brim of the hat. This border will have a rather specific shape, and you can draw the upper part by drawing a curvy, wavy line. The sides will be slightly diagonal, then the base of the edge will also be wavy, just a little less than the top line. You can remove the rear of the rim with a less curved line before carrying on to the following step. This border can be a bit tricky to draw, so be sure to refer closely to the reference image as you draw to get the curvature correct.
Step 2:
You have finished drawing the brim of the hat, and now we can start drawing the top of the hat. The top of the hat is just as distinctive as the wide brim of the hat as it is quite tall and lean compared to the wide brim. To remove this top area of the harp, you can use a curved bar to create this curved area. The top of the hat will be a little flatter but will still have a slight curve. You can then complete this step by drawing the opening under the ledge with another curved line. You will then go to step 3 of the guide!
Step 3:
Now the outline of the hat is done and we can move on to the next steps of this guide to drawing a hat by decorating the hat. To start, we’re going to focus on the top of the hat. To do this, all you have to do is draw horizontal lines on the upper part of the hat. That’s all there is to this step, and now you can skip stepping 4 of the guide!
Step 4:
Continuing with this hat drawing, we are going to add some striped details to the hat. These next few details will focus on the brim of the hat, and like the top section, these lines will run horizontally across the brim. However, these will be much longer and wavy than these lines. When you have added these decorative details, you are ready to complete the final details and elements in the next step of the guide.
Step 5:
As we mentioned in the previous step of this guide on how to draw a hat, this step will consist of finishing the last details and elements of the hat before finishing it with some colors. You will also be able to add your ideas and additional elements, but let’s finish the design first. To do this, we’ll draw jagged lines between the wavy lines drawn on the border you added in the previous step. This will create a kind of zigzag pattern which will add a lot of character to the design of the hat. Then you’ll be ready to finish your details! There are lots of fun ideas you could use, and these could include drawing someone wearing the hat or maybe designing a background behind it. Step 6:
It’s time to relax with a little coloring fun while you finish this hat drawing. In our reference image, we used a combination of light browns with some greens and reds for the various decorative elements of the hat.
